PHD Audio RED 6.1 Kit 6.5 Inch Component Speakers - Designed & Made in Italy
Overview
PHD Audio RED 6.1 Kit is a 2-way separate set with 1″ tweeters, 6.5″ mid-bass/midrange elements and splitters. The filter for this series is the PHD Audio BLACK Xover, which contains a 12 dB/oct high-pass filter and a protection circuit for the treble. There are also connectors for mid-bass in the filter.
This series is easy to install in most cars. Since the mid-bass element is acoustically filtered, the splitter can be used only for the treble like an inline splitter. That is, if the mid-bass is in the door and the tweeter is on the instrument panel or in the A-pillar, you can install the mid-bass directly to the car's own speaker cables. The crossover filter for the tweeter is installed on the car's own tweeter cables, and the tweeter after it. You don't have to run cables for filtering from the elements through the door openings.
To enable accurate bass and mid-range sound reproduction, a sturdy body is required. Which is very open at the back and interferes with the movement of the cone as little as possible. PHD Audio's own production composite casting frame has been made as open as possible whilst remaining sturdy. The connections brought through the frame leave the air holes open and do not disturb the air flow on the back side of the element.

Are you tired of the speaker connectors always being the "wrong size" and not having the right connectors for them? All PHD Audio coaxials, midbass, midrange drivers and widebands use beefier connectors. Both the plus and minus connections are standard-sized 6.3 x 0.8 mm flat connectors. A good quality abiko or würth flat connector grips the terminal properly and ensures a good contact. The element's gold-plated cable connections are attached through the frame, so the terminal's attachment to the element is also sturdy.
The upper suspension is HBNR rubber (Hydrogenated Nitrile Rubber). As in all PHD Audio speaker elements. The material is one of the most valuable types of rubber, but it has excellent properties specifically for hanging the speaker. Mechanical resistance, abrasion resistance, chemical resistance, flexibility and temperature resistance (-40 – +160 °) are all at an excellent level.
For ventilation of the voice coil, there is a ventilation opening in the center pole of the magnet. The cone is a fiberglass cone to which other fibers have been added to strengthen the cone and eliminate cone resonance. The lower suspension is a linear suspension.
In all PHD Audio coaxials, midranges, widebands and midbass, the design of the frame also includes consideration of installation. The fixing screws do not come on top of the suspension, but the location of the fixing holes is such that the speaker can be easily fixed with reasonably sized screws.
The treble element is a PHD Audio 1.1 TWE. The 1" silk dome tweeter has a slightly unusual structure. The element is made very flat in the depth direction. Its installation depth without installation cups is only a few millimeters. This makes the element easy to install in almost any mirror triangle or a-pillar if a simple flush installation is desired.
The PHD RED 6.1 Kit separate set takes the best of the sounds of the CF collection. Musicality and richness in the midrange and upper end. A more solid bass reproduction is added to this recipe, which reaches balanced quality even for very low frequencies as a 6.5″ stand-alone set.
A surface mounting cup and a corner mounting cup are also included for the tweeter. These mounting cups are also PHD Audio's own production, the fit between the element and the cups is so sturdy that it is guaranteed not to rattle.
