{"id":534,"date":"2016-07-17T18:28:20","date_gmt":"2016-07-17T06:28:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/?p=534"},"modified":"2019-02-14T18:36:47","modified_gmt":"2019-02-14T05:36:47","slug":"dd-audio-iw6-5-in-wall-speaker-product-review","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/dd-audio-iw6-5-in-wall-speaker-product-review\/","title":{"rendered":"DD Audio IW6.5 In Wall Speaker Product Review"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>It is known that <strong>DD Audio<\/strong> have been making <strong>Home Audio<\/strong> for quite some time now, in fact my understanding is that <strong>DD Audio<\/strong> have been designing and building high quality products for <strong>Home Audio<\/strong> as far back as <strong>1986<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So when <strong>Ashley \u2018Madd Bass\u2019 Burrell<\/strong> told me that <strong>DD Audio<\/strong> had just released the <strong>IW6.5 In-Wall\/Ceiling Speaker<\/strong> I had to have a listen, so for the next few days I hounded <strong>Ashley<\/strong> (As I do) for us to get a set in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/IMG_5681.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/IMG_5681.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-544\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/IMG_5681.jpg 600w, https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/IMG_5681-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/IMG_5681-360x240.jpg 360w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The first thing I noticed when I unboxed the <strong>IW6.5\u2019s<\/strong> was the twin <strong>Silk Dome Tweeters<\/strong>, seeing that made me even more impatient since most speakers with <strong>Silk Dome Tweeters<\/strong> generally have beautiful clarity and a real refined sound to them. After glaring at the front for what would seem like an eternity I decided to check out the components before we got <strong>George<\/strong> &amp; <strong>Ashley<\/strong> to mount them in the front wall of <strong>ABTEC\u2019s Audio Lounge.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/IMG_5682.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/IMG_5682.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-545\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/IMG_5682.jpg 600w, https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/IMG_5682-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/IMG_5682-360x240.jpg 360w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the <strong>DD Audio IW6.5\u2019s<\/strong> were mounted into the wall I let them have a few hours of play time before I had a listen, not because I wanted to give them some run-in time but more so because I knew <strong>Ashley<\/strong> would of wanted to have a good listen first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now that<strong> Ashley<\/strong> had finished listening to the <strong>IW6.5\u2019s<\/strong> it was now my turn to have a sit down and try numerous songs from a wide range of music genres, during this time I only had the <strong>DD Audio IW6.5\u2019s<\/strong> running so that I was sure that every sound I heard was only from the <strong>IW6.5\u2019s<\/strong>. Straight away I could hear the clarity and detail from the twin <strong>Silk Dome Tweeters<\/strong>, the woofers had a very clean mid-bass and nice distinctive kicks that wasn\u2019t overwhelming which made the listening experience very enjoyable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/IMG_5719.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/IMG_5719.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-546\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/IMG_5719.jpg 600w, https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/IMG_5719-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/IMG_5719-360x240.jpg 360w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Now I had a good taste of the sound that the <strong>DD Audio IW6.5\u2019s<\/strong> produced it was time to do a little comparison to two other hi-end Branded (Which I will not name)\u00a0<strong>In-Wall\/Ceiling Speakers<\/strong>, the song\u2019s I used for this was <strong>Pink Floyd\u2019s Time <\/strong>&amp;<strong> Guns and Roses\u2019 Dead Horse<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First I listened to <strong>Time<\/strong>\u00a0through the <strong>DD Audio IW6.5\u2019s<\/strong> and after that listened to it on what I would now call <strong>Speakers A<\/strong> &amp; then <strong>Speakers B<\/strong>, straight away I could tell the differences in the <strong>Tweeters<\/strong> as the <strong>Aluminium Tweeters<\/strong> in <strong>Speakers A &amp; B<\/strong> soon became harsh at the beginning of the song during the <strong>Grandfather Clock Bells<\/strong> and also during the <strong>Guitar Solo<\/strong> on the higher notes while the twin <strong>Silk Tweeters<\/strong> on the <strong>IW6.5\u2019s<\/strong> held the notes smooth and true!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While listening to <strong>Dead Horse<\/strong> the <strong>Vocals<\/strong> &amp; <strong>Acoustic Guitar<\/strong> on the <strong>IW6.5\u2019s<\/strong> sounded natural and so so clean, I can\u2019t emphasize on how clean they are to the point when I listened to the same song on <strong>Speakers A &amp; B<\/strong> I was instantly disappointed. The <strong>DD Audio IW6.5\u2019s<\/strong> also come with\u00a0one square and one round paintable grills\u00a0for seamless room integration and attach via neodymium magnets for easy and secure on\/off mounting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In no way I could fault the<strong> DD Audio IW6.5\u2019s<\/strong> and in comparison to <strong>Speakers A &amp; B<\/strong> sound price and style wise the <strong>IW6.5\u2019s<\/strong> excelled, if you are in the market for some <strong>In-Wall\/Ceiling Speakers<\/strong> come down to <strong>ABTEC<\/strong> and have a listen.
