{"id":375,"date":"2015-04-23T15:47:50","date_gmt":"2015-04-23T03:47:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/?p=375"},"modified":"2019-02-13T15:58:39","modified_gmt":"2019-02-13T02:58:39","slug":"abtec1-gets-4-dd-515-d4s-in-a-wall","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/abtec1-gets-4-dd-515-d4s-in-a-wall\/","title":{"rendered":"ABTEC1 Gets 4 DD-515-D4\u2019s in a Wall!!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Over the last year <strong>ABTEC1<\/strong> has gone through a few transformations, when I got my grubby hands on it the <strong>Pajero<\/strong>&nbsp;it had one <strong>DD-9512-D2<\/strong> facing forward &amp; four <strong>DD-SW6.5\u2019s<\/strong> facing the rear door. After that it went through a series of set-ups including four <strong>DD-512-D4\u2019s<\/strong> all the way up to running a <strong>DD-Z12-D1<\/strong> &amp; <strong>DD-Z18-D1<\/strong> at different stages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This blog isn\u2019t about the different set-up\u2019s we have run as that would be novel on the product list alone, but about the build of its <strong>NEW<\/strong> and final set-up of 4 <strong>DD-515-D4\u2019s<\/strong> in a wall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/WALL0.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/WALL0.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-384\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/WALL0.jpg 600w, https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/WALL0-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/WALL0-360x240.jpg 360w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Walling <strong>ABTEC1<\/strong> had been a discussion <strong>Ashley \u2018MAD BASS\u2019 Burrell<\/strong> &amp; I have had several times in the past year, the only hold back was <strong>Ashley\u2019s<\/strong> concern that there would be a significant loss in <strong>Sound Quality<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After numerous discussions &amp; phone calls with <strong>Jassa<\/strong> of <strong>Digital Designs Ashley<\/strong> had enough of an idea of how we could wall <strong>ABTEC1<\/strong> and still retain the <strong>Sound Quality<\/strong> as to be able to demo <strong>\u201cNormal\u201d<\/strong> everyday music loud and clear as well as wowing people with the brutality of the <strong>\u201cBASS\u201d<\/strong> music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The picture above is not the master design just so you know, but <strong>Dave\u2019s<\/strong> sketch so he can figure out the final adjustments so that the box would fit into <strong>ABTEC1<\/strong> and also the cutting\/assembly&nbsp;order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/WALL1.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/WALL1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-385\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/WALL1.jpg 600w, https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/WALL1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/WALL1-360x240.jpg 360w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As you can see above the first job was to remove\/dissemble the contents of <strong>ABTEC1<\/strong>, <strong>Ashley<\/strong> &amp; I took charge of this&nbsp;and I must say I highly enjoyed taking it apart as most of the tool work I usually do these days is mainly&nbsp;maintaining the family car.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After this was all done it was time to call it a night since we were starting reasonably early the next day due to wanting to get the wall done in one day! Just before closing up we had <strong>Ashley<\/strong> return to the workshop due to having no bass, he didn\u2019t even last a minute down the road before returning to get a&nbsp;temporarily <strong>Sub-Woofer<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/WALL2.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/WALL2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-386\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/WALL2.jpg 600w, https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/WALL2-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/WALL2-360x240.jpg 360w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>When we turned up Saturday morning the first thing we did was lay out a plan of&nbsp;execution, once that was sorted I laid out all the equipment that was required of the build and&nbsp;got back to my Saturday Job of distracting customers giving <strong>Dave<\/strong> and <strong>Ashley<\/strong> the free time to start the prep work on the box.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/WALL3.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/WALL3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-387\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/WALL3.jpg 600w, https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/WALL3-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/WALL3-360x240.jpg 360w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the prep work was all done and cut it was now time for <strong>Dave<\/strong> to start piecing the box together and as you can see above it is a very tight squeeze (but&nbsp;apparently&nbsp;<strong>Dave<\/strong> likes that sort of thing).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Back to a serious note the box was so tight that it had to be trimmed down just a touch compared to the original design by 15mm each side and this might not sound like much but can&nbsp;slightly alter you tune, but since this box is&nbsp;monstrous&nbsp; I don\u2019t think it would of made a&nbsp;noticeable&nbsp;difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/WALL4.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/WALL4.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-388\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/WALL4.jpg 600w, https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/WALL4-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/WALL4-360x240.jpg 360w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Now the box was sized up it and ready for assembly <strong>Dave<\/strong> marked out &amp; pre drilled the screw holes, then all three of use got a cordless drill each and went to town on the box (yes I know that sounds really bad). There was an easy 300+ surefast\/fix screws used in fixing this box together and a couple of tubes of glue too!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/WALL5.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/WALL5.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-389\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/WALL5.jpg 600w, https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/WALL5-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/WALL5-360x240.jpg 360w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Before the box was lifted into <strong>ABTEC1<\/strong> I gave the front face &amp; inside of the box a quick coat of primmer and paint, but not before fitting the 12mm threaded rod to reinforce it from the extreme air pressure&nbsp;&amp; vibrations it is bound to see in its lifespan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Next on the job list was for <strong>Ashley<\/strong> to secure the box, amp &amp; then fit the <strong>Sub-Woofers<\/strong>. Once that was all done we had to have a quick listen, which turned into about&nbsp;thirty&nbsp;to forty minutes of trying different tracks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/WALL6.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/WALL6.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-390\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/WALL6.jpg 600w, https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/WALL6-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/WALL6-360x240.jpg 360w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We soon realised that time had easily past us by and that some of us should really return home to our families, but before doing so Ashley put some Sub-Woofer bars on to stop any accidental damage to the two Sub-Woofers due to the seats being capable of sliding back into them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/WALL7.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/WALL7.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-391\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/WALL7.jpg 600w, https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/WALL7-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/WALL7-360x240.jpg 360w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Monday came quickly it was now time for the final touches to the front of the wall with <strong>Dave<\/strong> making up the two side panels that would house the <strong>2 x DD-VO-B2 Horn Super-Tweeters<\/strong> and <strong>4 x DD-VO-M6x9 Mid-Range Speakers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/WALL8.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/WALL8.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-392\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/WALL8.jpg 600w, https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/WALL8-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/hifihq.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/WALL8-360x240.jpg 360w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The end product we ended up with is not only a brutal ground-pounder but also sounds absolutely beautiful on <strong>ALL<\/strong> music types\/genres, I found that hoping into <strong>ABTEC3<\/strong> after listening to the <strong>NEW IMPROVED ABTEC1<\/strong> makes me sad. Don\u2019t get me wrong here the <strong>DD-9518-D1-SC-ES<\/strong> on a <strong>DD-M4a<\/strong> is ballistic but <strong>ABTEC3<\/strong> has so much&nbsp;clarity to it!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Overall <strong>Ashley<\/strong> has created a beast of a <strong>Pajero<\/strong> that sounds so surreal I keep on thinking to myself \u201cHow can I get <strong>Ashley<\/strong> to swap cars!\u201d \u2013<strong>Lance<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Over the last year ABTEC1 has gone through a few transformations, when I got my grubby hands on it the Pajero&nbsp;it had one DD-9512-D2 facing forward &amp; four DD-SW6.5\u2019s facing the rear door.
