Sony 10″ Subwoofers Hit 150.1db!
Abtec Audio Lounge gunning for db record…
We decided to prep ABTEC3 for an upcoming event we will be running in the near future and do a couple of SPL test’s while we were at it. Soon after arriving I found myself having a conversation with our MD about setting up the 10’s again with no change of gear as I was convinced it has a good 150db in this setup.
After a good half an hour of putting all the same gear back in from the 149.9db run we did at the V 4 & Rotary North Island Jamboree it was about time to start going through the settings of not only the head unit and amp but also the placement of the box in the car.
With this being a vital part of the setup I took my time re-configuring it and soon enough after a few low volume sweeps found the optimal frequency, at this point we were all ready for a burp so on went the head-phones.
And what do you know, a 150db flat on the first burp which is an awesome result for entry level 10″s but I want to at least get a touch higher than that! So a slight adjustment and BOOM 150.1db! Just to make sure it wasn’t a one off thing we did another four or so burps netting the same result.
I know a lot of people will be saying this isn’t an official result since it wasn’t at an event but we had two dB Drag Racing Officials there and the Head Judge which must count for something. And to keep the critics at bay we will be officially be SPL testing this set up at our next event!
And just to top it off after a long conversation with Sony NZ we were able to confirm that it was a new world record for the Sony entry level 10″ Subwoofers at 150.1db!
Here is a video of that run…
Enjoy!
