Our First JVC SPL Demo Truck!
Back in mid 2000 Ashley ‘Mad Bass’ Burrell brought a new company vehicle, this vehicle was a Isuzu Wizard. The Wizard spent many a year doing everything from daily duties, driving rep’s around to hauling audio equipment around NZ.
After 6 years of work duties Ashley thought it would be good to give the Wizard a bit of an overhaul, including a full SPL audio install, some sign-writing and the biggest wheels they could find at the time!
First thing on the cards was getting it sign written and getting the biggest set of chrome wheels available, I’m personally not a fan of chrome wheels but must say I think these wheels actually suit the Wizard
Next on the cards (no pun intended) was getting the door-cards customised since Isuzu never intended for two set’s of components to be installed in the doors. This problem was easily fixed with some plywood, fibre glass and a lot of time!
Since the Wizard was going to be Ashley’s new Demo Sound Truck there was going to be no need for a boot, so the whole boot was utilised to fit 4 sub-woofers, 4 bridgeable 2-channel amplifiers, 1 bridgeable 4-channel amplifier and an extra battery to help power all the amplifiers!
As you can see a lot of fibre-glass was used to make the boot look as tidy as possible, personally I think it looks like it came from the factory this way apart from the colour scheme that makes it stand out. Not that standing out is a bad thing, being a demo car it is to be expected!
By now you are most likely wondering why the truck has JVC plastered all over it and also is filled to the brim with its products? Well the answer to that is because Ashley at that stage was JVC’s National Sale’s & Marketing Manager and eventually became there Managing Director for NZ.
So it made perfect sense at the time for them to sponsor the truck. Ashley eventually moved on from the JVC product and this truck selling it onto a local Porirua resident. I still even see it driving around Porirua once in a while!
At the time the Demo Truck was capable of doing 145dB in SPL (Sound Pressure Level) tests which was a very respectable number back then, today though we are getting 150dB+ from 4 entry level Sony sub-woofers & also from single DD Audio sub-woofers!
It is amazing how the car-audio game changes over the years and I also can’t wait to see how our current Demo Truck ends up once it is finally finished, which in the last few months has had over 6 different set-ups in it but I will leave that for another blog!
